14 days itinerary in Indonesia
Indonesia offers Vietnamese without visa, stay up to 30 days. So why not travel there as soon as you can.
Day 1. Fly from Ha Noi to KL (3 hours)/ then KL to Jakarta (2 hours)
Day 2. Visit Jakarta (travelling by BUS)
Visit National Museum (or local call Elephant Museum), walking to see National Monument (or Monas), (the best time to visit is SUNSET). Walking around and visit Masjid Istiqlal – the biggest mosque in Indonesia.
Day 3. Take the train from Jakarta to Bogor. Train station is right in the center, so you could walk to Abu Pension Guesthouse.
Visit Bogor’s Botanical Garden – recognized by UNESCO, come to Gumati Café for lunch, it is worth of your money.
At night, walking around the train station, and it was the first time I tried Grilled chicken rice (Ayam Bakar) by hand.
Day 4. Take the train from Bogor to Jakarta then travel to Bandung. Bandung is well-known as City of flowers, and many people speak the women from Bandung are very beautiful.
It is better that you could take a night in Bandung, and come to Bandung Mosque, it is very marvelous, many Muslim families hang out in front of the mosque.
During the day, you could visit Kawah Putih (known as White crater). To travel there, it is convenient to take 2 buses from Bandung center. On the way, you could see there are many Strawberry Farm and it is quite delicious.
Day 5. Take a bus from Bandung to Yogyakarta (nearly full day), you will arrive the city around 8:00 – 9:00 pm.
Day 6. Yogyakarta is very worth to spend couple of days in there to discover the city. It is the city but quite quiet. I love the traditional and culture city.
Visit Taman Sari Water Castle (it is high-light), and I really recommend to take the tour guide in there to introduce to you how beautiful of Castle is and you also understand what meaning of the castle. Water Castle is well connected to underground mosque. It is very impressive mosque in Indonesia as it located underground, and not easy to find if you travel by yourself.
You could also visit Bird Market over early morning, it sells a lot of animals as birds, chicken, fishes, etc.
You could go shopping for Batik, as it sells a lot in Yogyakarta.
Day 7. Spend another day in Yogyakarta to discover Borobudur.
You could easy rent the scooter to travel from Yogyakarta to Borobudur (it takes you about 2 hours riding, don’t follow the highway, going the village route, where only you on the way and it is really enjoyable up and down the hill)
When we arrived Borobudur, it costs US$ 20/pax to come and visit. So we decided not go into, we travelled to Chicken Church nearby, where there are not much of tourist people know, and it was really interesting.
Day 8. Spend another day in Yogyakarta for JUNGLE, visit Kalibiru, you will go up the hill so the weather is little cooler, and worth of your money, you going to the top of the JUNGLE, and stand on the top of the tree to have great pictures with nature.
Day 9. We take a bus from Yogyakarta to Prodolinggo. The local people is very friendly. Actually, the backpackers only transit at Prodolinggo to travel next to Cemero Lawang (Mount Bromo).
To travel to Cemero Lawang from Prodolinggo by yourself, be prepared that there are few cheating people.
If you decided to take a bus, please follow my guideline. It is cheap but taking a lot of your time with patience.
Take a local bus (Ojek) from train station to bus station, ask to find the bus stop to go to Cemero Lawang. It is next to bus station, and going ahead to there, you might have to wait to fulfill of the BUS with 15 people, or the fare will split to available customers.
If you travel in the morning, you might come to Cemero Lawang in the afternoon ( it takes only 3 hours, but waiting time could be over 4 – 5 hours). Don’t rest, walking to VIEWPOINT at Mount Bromo to see the SUNSET.
You are better to take early sleep as next day you have to walk quite long way to the VIEWPOINT.
Day 10. We woke up at 1:30 am, and walking all the way to VIEWPOINT (there are no entrance fees to viewpoint, but about US$ 35 to go close to Mount Bromo). You will get to VIEWPOINT around 4:00 am, it is quite cold in there, so prepared yourself with warm clothes if you don’t want to get cough.
After visiting Mount Bromo with many great pictures for SUNRISE and SUNSET, you will travel back to Prodollingo, and it is better to book the train in advance to travel from Prodolingo to Banyuwangi (it is much cheaper to book the train in advance). Otherwise, you could travel there by BUS like us.
You will stop at bus stop in Banyuwangi, and call for motorbike rental, who will bring the motorbike to you at Bus stop. It is quite convenient to have your own vehicle to travel around.
Day 11. Yesterday, we woke up at 1:30 am, and spent whole day to travel. On day 11, we woke up at 1:00 am, to travel to Kawah Ijen to see the Blue Fire. It takes you 2.5 hours riding from the center to Camping Ground (Gunung Ijen), and from there you have to walk about 10 km to the VIEWPOINT and the mine where there are BLUE FIRE (People speak only 2 places in the world).
After seeing Kawah Ijen, we were so tired, so we took whole day to sleep after visiting Bali.
Day 12. Drive a motorbike to the habour where you could take the ferry to Bali, and call for motorbike rental to return the motorbike. It saves you a lot of money.
From Gilimanuk (as it is the harbor on the side of Bali Island), you could join in any bus to go to Denpasar. It is also very easy to rent the motorbike in Denpasar.
Morning, visit Candi Kuning Tourist and Fruit Market.
Afternoon, visit Pura Luhur Uluwatu (Uluwatu Temple), don’t miss the SUNSET there, it is such amazing experience.
Day 13. Wake up early to see the SUNRISE over Sanur Beach.
If you have more time to discover Indonesia, spend more time in Bali to learn the Diving Course.
I finished my previous trip here and wish to come back there soon.
